6 More Institutes Of Pharmaceutical Education Institutes TO Be Accorded Special Status

Rajya Sabha passes Bill on pharma institutes, research; seeks special status to six more institutes of pharmaceutical education

Rajya Sabha passed 'The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (Amendment) Bill 2021' on December 6, 2021, which seeks to accord national importance to six more institutes as well as set up a council for these institutes.

21 members took part in the debate and the bill was passed via voice vote. The institutes to receive this accord are located at Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Hajipur, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Rae Bareli.

The Bill aims to encourage research at these institutes while giving them the power to grant degrees, diplomas among other academic credentials and hold examinations under this Act.

The council will coordinate activities among the institutes and ensure the development of pharmaceutical education and research. They will also advise on all matters including the course duration, curriculum, administration work, budgets, examinations, etc.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stated that the Bill will empower the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER).
