CAT 2017: Five Skills Required To Crack The Exam, Apart From Studies

Rigorous and continuous study is what comes to mind when thought of cracking CAT (Common Admission Test) crops up. Though study is important, yet there certain other skills which no one should ignore with regard to CAT.

With just a few days left for CAT 2017, take a look at some of the skills which you require to crack the exam, apart from studies. These skills are necessary to crack CAT, apart from proper time management, planning strategies, and remaining calm and focused.

1. Smartness More Important Than Intelligence – In CAT, each question carries 3 marks and there is negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer. So, picking the right questions will definitely help you in getting admission in a good business school.

2. Make Your Concepts Clear – Aspirants of CAT exam are tested on basis of quantitative ability, verbal ability and reading comprehension, data interpretation and logical reasoning. Mere memorizing calculations and formulas won’t help; you have you make your concepts clear. So, first make your base right.

3. Improve Your Concentration Power – This skill derives its logic from the previous skill. Looking at a computer for three long hours with focusing on questions that tests your logical reasoning is not an easy task. It’s important to work on your concentration power. 

Moreover, you will have exactly 60 minutes for answering each section (comprising of both MSQ and non-MCQ questions). Reading every question carefully and answering it correctly is a test of your smartness, intelligence as well as your concentration power.

4. Keep On Practicing – Apart from having daily classroom programs and mock tests, never stop practicing by yourself. Don’t just follow what your coaching centers and teachers are saying, rather put an effort from your side too. Subjects like verbal and reading comprehension, data interpretation & logical reasoning, and quantitative ability will get better by more practicing.

5. Stop Believing In Myths – It’s a common say that CAT is a tough exam and difficult to crack. However, the fact is different examination pattern of CAT requires a different approach to study and to attempt the paper. Don’t predetermine that CAT paper is going to be tough, as such thoughts will unnecessary create pressure leading to incomplete preparations.
