EESL And TERRE Partner To Mainstream Carbon Neutrality In Higher Educational Institutes
National Universities and higher education institutes in India to become carbon neutral and energy-efficient with the help of EESL and TERRE partnership.
Under the administration of the Ministry of Power, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and Technology, Education, Research and Rehabilitation for the Environment (TERRE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bring momentum to the promotion of Sustainable Development Goals and carbon neutrality across higher education institutes and national universities. The MoU was signed on World Environment Day, 5th June 2021, with the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) showing its full support.
TERRE and EESL will work together on projects that will help transform education campuses into hubs for energy efficiency, renewable energy, emission reduction and air-pollution abatement. They are starting with the launch of a platform that will help higher education institutes take action toward carbon neutrality.
Other measures include organising workshops for energy audits, setting standards for super-efficient appliances in the market, creating guidelines on benchmark survey of Not Zero-Net Zero pledged institutes and map out emission reduction strategies. The next step is to finance the replacement of inefficient appliances and thereby, making the infrastructure of campuses more energy efficient.
