Twenty papers published by the learners and instructors of Great Learning as a part of their Capstone projects have been featured by the World Health Organization (WHO) in their global literature on the Coronavirus disease. Great Learning is a leading global edtech company for professional learning and higher education. The papers were written during the first and the second peak of Covid-19, and cover a host of topics including forecasting Covid 19 in India using several machine learning models, detecting the severity of Covid-19 through chest X-rays, predicting the hospital beds utilization for Covid-19 in Telangana, forecasting vaccination drive in India for herd immunity and effectiveness of lockdowns in Karnataka during the second wave. With this development, Great Learning becomes the first and only Indian edtech company whose learners’ capstone projects have been listed by WHO under global literature.
By putting together the ‘Global research on Coronavirus disease’, WHO is bringing the world’s scientists and global health professionals together to accelerate the research and development process and develop new techniques to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. As a part of this, WHO indexes the latest and most credible international multilingual scientific findings and knowledge on Covid 19. The global literature cited in the WHO Covid 19 database is updated regularly from searches of bibliographic databases, hand searching, and the addition of other expert-referred scientific articles. This database represents a comprehensive multilingual source of current literature on the topic. The research papers by the Great Learning students have been included in this database. They have also been presented at well-known scientific conferences in the world including IEMCON 2021, CD-MAKE 2021, CSCCC 2021, AIIoT 2021, IEEE International IoT, Electronics and Mechatronics Conference, and several others.
These studies were conducted as a part of programmes conducted by Great Learning to upskill professionals in industry-relevant digital skills like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science. All the indexed papers are peer-reviewed which advocates their accuracy. By encouraging and supporting its students to conduct research on practical real-world problems and successfully publish their findings through such papers, Great Learning is able to demonstrate the academic rigor and quality that only the very elite academic institutions in India are able to.
