HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Visited IIT Guwahati; Assures Maximum Support From The Ministry
Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal extended his congratulations to the Institute for securing 491 overall rank and 79th rank in the category of youngest institutions in the QS World Rankings. He urges IIT Guwahati to collaborate with other institutions of the North Eastern Region
Union Minister of Human Resource Development made his maiden visit to the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati on July 6, 2019 after taking charge of the Ministry. During his visit, the minister addressed students and met with the officials including the Director, Deputy Director, Deans, and Associate Deans.
Pokhriyal also extended his congratulations to the Institute for securing 491 overall rank and 79th rank in the category of youngest institutions in the QS World Rankings.
IIT Guwahati has achieved rapid growth in the 25 years of its existence. The Institute has developed world-class infrastructure including state-of-the-art equipment and machineries for carrying out research in advanced frontiers of science and technology.
Speaking about IIT Guwahati being ranked seventh in Engineering and ninth in Overall category in National Institute Ranking Framework (2019), Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said, “The ranking proves that the young Institute is moving in the right direction towards achieving excellence. The efforts of the Institute have also ensured International rankings where IIT Guwahati is placed at 491 (QS World Rankings 2019) in overall and 79 among the Young Universities (under 50 years of age) categories respectively in the world".
He further assured the institute of all possible support in terms of further strengthening of infrastructure and providing other necessary resources
Speaking on the visit of the HRD Minister, Dr T.G.Sitharam said, “We are very happy with the visit of the Hon’ble Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Shri. Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal to the IIT Guwahati campus recently. The Minister identified some key focus areas for the Institute wherein he mentioned IIT Guwahati to collaborate with other esteemed institutes in the country alongwith institutes of the North East Region. The institute is committed to working in this direction so that we can extend our contribution towards the development of our country”.
T. G. Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati also presented his detailed vision plan to the Union Minister during his visit.
In his meeting with the Institute officials, Pokhriyal assured that the Ministry of HRD will extend maximum support to establish the infrastructure and provide other resources to the institution to further improve the Institute’s rank in the coming years.
The Minister has also emphasized on collaborating with other academic institutes in the country to work on research to help solve the myriad problems of basic amenities that the citizens of the country face. He also asked IIT Guwahati to work closely with other institutions of the North Eastern Region, which is a priority for the Government, to guide the region in to a new era of progress and development.
To mark his visit, the Minister planted a sapling in the campus and wishes the institution luck to reach zenith and to become the world leader in the field of education in the coming years.
