How Tech Is Enabling Learning From Home

Technology needs to be incorporated into all education systems, as we move towards a blended learning system.

As a result of the ongoing pandemic and its subsequent consequences, the economy has taken a major hit. The country’s business sector has observed tremendous shifts on every front, from short-term plans for business revival to long-term growth strategies. Fortunately, the ed-tech sector, one of the few sectors that managed to remain lucrative even amidst the economic and health crisis, has witnessed a surge due to the teaching medium transcending from offline classrooms to online platforms.

Estimates suggest India’s higher education sector is set to reach USD 35 billion value by 2025, one of the largest and fastest-growing countries. During the global crisis, technical education is providing impetus for accelerated economic growth. Schools and colleges had to be closed down temporarily in the situation and continue learning uninterruptedly; online education led the way. Technology has been revolutionary in shaping the way the education sector has evolved in recent times, especially over the past year with students learning from home. 4 key themes have emerged over the past year of online learning

Personalized learning

Our education system has always known to have a 'one size fits all' approach. In a typical offline classroom environment, every student cannot be given equal, undivided attention separately. However, with the advent of technology, this is slowly diminishing. This kind of online arrangement demands to cater to the needs of every student. WithAI, features such as real-time feedback and doubt clearance using bots, customized content, etc., are rapidly gaining momentum. Through this system, learning is customized for every student, thereby breaking free from the ‘one size fits all’ approach.

Blended Learning

Schools have been coping with the partial lockdowns, even as there is uncertainty around future lockdown events. To ensure seamless learning, the blended learning approach has recently gained immense traction. Blended learning is bringing together elements of both online and offline learning. It is an innovative approach that presents the best alternative in the present condition. Moreover, the blended learning approach presents opportunities to facilitate collaborative learning, which would prepare the students for more group-oriented projects.

Gamification

Yet another feature of online education that is being increasingly already begun and will gain momentum in the future is gamification. Long lectures often tend to bore students, making them lose focus. With gamification, learning sessions will be made more interactive and fun. This approach will facilitate students engaging with the class and getting to know their classmates and teachers well. Chatbots can also be used for this purpose - to help students with problem-solving and doubt clearance. It can also be a helpful tool, offering guidance for test preparation. This teaching process provides a seamless learning experience and proves useful for both students and teachers.

Virtual Learning

The virtual learning experience is highly engaging for the students. AR and VR-based learning will help to increase the learner's concentration and productivity. AR and VR-based learning is an area to watch out for in the coming year in the ed-tech sector.

The trends and changes mentioned above have revolutionized technology-based education, and it is not going to fade away any time soon. It will continue to blend into classroom-based learning even after schools reopen. Both schools and coaching centres will need to incorporate technology in classes. Therefore the ed-tech sector has its hands full for the foreseeable future.
