How To Calculate Your CAT Percentile
The basic idea of the CAT percentile is to tell you what percent of the students have scored less than you in the examination
A CAT percentile decides the rank of a management aspirant, seeking MBA/PGDM admission in top IIMs and other B-Schools in India, based on the Common Aptitude Test (CAT exam), relative to the rest of the aspirants who appeared for the same MBA entrance exam. The basic idea of the CAT percentile is to tell you what percent of the students have scored less than you in the examination.
CAT 2017 will help finalise CAT scores to all candidates seeking admission in MBA programs across IIMs and top business schools in India. The overall scores of CAT 2017 will be sorted and respective CAT percentile is allotted by simple calculation mentioned below:
Calculation of CAT Percentile
CAT Percentile = [1 – (Your Rank in CAT 2017/Total Number of Candidates taking CAT 2017)] * 100
If the total number candidates who will be appearing for CAT 2017 exam is 1, 00,000 and you score a CAT rank 2017 of 3,500 then your CAT percentile will be calculated as below:
Your CAT 2016 Percentile = [1 – (3500/1, 00,000)] * 100 = 96.5
The above percentile means that 96.5 percent of the students writing the CAT exam shall have the CAT score below you.
No candidate can score an absolute 100 percentile in CAT exam because CAT Percentile indicates what percent of students you are ahead of, including yourself. Also, the CAT percentile is calculated up to three decimal places and it then rounded off to the next closest possible number.
