IIM Raipur Conducts Orientation Programme

The program started with the inaugural address by Shyamala Gopinathan, BoG, Chairperson, IIM Raipur

IIM Raipur welcomed its 13th Batch of Post Graduate Programme in Management and 8th Batch of Fellow Programme in Management and 11th Batch of Executive Fellow Programme in Management on the first day of the Orientation programme held on 4th July 2022 innervating the students on a new journey filled with new hopes and determinations. The students got an opportunity to interact with experts from academia, the learning received from whom will certainly stay with the audience.

The program started with the inaugural address by Shyamala Gopinathan, BoG, Chairperson, IIM Raipur, congratulating the students for securing admission in a top tier institute of India. This was followed by lamp lighting ceremony by the dignitaries, a melodious Saraswati Vandana and IIM Raipur theme song by the PGP 2nd year students.

Prof Gopal Kumar, Chairperson-PGP welcomed the students of PGP Batch 2022-24 & FPM Batch 2022. Prof Mohit Goswami, Chairperson, Admissions, then presented the Student Profile for the PGP class. The batch profile of IIM Raipur showed a continued push toward diversity and inclusivity with 62 per cent female candidates in a batch strength of 331. Around 36 per cent of candidates are engineering graduates; 26 per cent are commerce graduates, and the remainder come from different disciplines such as management, science, etc. More than half of the batch has a work experience of an average of 27 months. IIM Raipur values unity in diversity and has a representation of students coming from 25 states of the country. Prof Yogesh Chauhan, Chairperson (Doctoral Programme) welcomed the students enrolling in the Fellowship program at IIM Raipur. 

On behalf of Prof Kamla K Jain, Dean - Academics, IIM Raipur, Prof Sanjeev Prashar, Professor - Marketing, IIM Raipur presented the welcome address. He motivated the incoming batch to follow their passion and shape their ideas accordingly. 

Dr R Balasubramaniam, Member (Human Resources), Capacity Building Commission, Government Of India started his address by greeting the students of the upcoming batch. 

Prof Ramkumar Kakani, Director, IIM Raipur, then brought the first half of the day to a close with a vote of thanks.

The second half of the day began with a brief session on ‘The Road More Traveled’ by Shri Mrityunjoy Sharma, a first generation politician and entrepreneur. He is an engineering graduate from BIT Mesra, Ranchi and an MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur. Sir has worked in an advisory role to the then Chief Minister, Dr Raman Singh on developmental issues and he has co-founded  biofie.com which helps to ease the internal recruitment process through a novel product. He encouraged the students to move to the grassroot level, find their passion, and follow the same.

On the second day of the Orientation Programme, a panel discussion will give the new batch a taste of corporate life. In addition to eminent industry personalities, alumni will provide valuable perspectives to the new batch. With everything in place for the new batch, IIM Raipur is once again well-positioned to produce leaders and researchers of excellent quality for the corporate sector and academic sector.
