It also cultivates a greater sense of discipline and increases critical thinking skills of individuals. Thus, it comes as no surprise that students aspire to pursue their higher education from the best universities and are also willing to travel to other countries in search of better opportunities.

The recent years witnessed an increase in the number of Indian students migrating to Sweden for their higher education. “With the coming of globalisation, the movement of people inside and outside the country, looking for opportunities is not something strange. In order to have a pool and attract good students, we need good universities and those universities need to have good contacts” says Klas Molin, Sweden Ambassador.

Sweden universities have various collaborations for programmes in science and engineering. Additionally, unique courses like a degree in gaming and programming also attract many students to Sweden Universities.

“Sweden is consistently ranked top in terms of innovation. Creativity is also encouraged informally from a very young age” adds Molin. He also believes that if a person is talented and ambitious then there are a lot of opportunities for him in Sweden.

Being a relatively small country, Sweden has to depend on foreign trade and it tries to get talent pool from other countries. Sweden has thus, internationalised the universities which has resulted in an increase in the number of students applying in these institutions. Additionally, the quality of education, ease of applications and visas and the availability of internships and paid employments after graduation are some of the other factors which attract students towards Sweden universities. Furthermore, the country also has specialised placement offices and guidance counsellors who help students in finding relevant jobs.

Molin also talks at length about the India-Sweden relations. He says that India and Sweden have a good relation. Furthermore, he mentions that there are collaboration programmes of Indian Universities with the Universities of Sweden. While language barrier is another factor which prevents a student from opting for a university in a particular country Molin adds that the prevalence of English in Sweden makes it a good choice for Indian students.
