LPU To Reward Its Seven Students From The Indian Men's Hockey Team At Tokyo Olympics

Lovely Professional University set to reward seven of its students part of the Indian men’s hockey team with INR 70 Lacs for the historic win at Tokyo Olympics

LPU announced that it will gift INR 70 lacs to seven of its students who were part of the Indian men’s hockey team at the Tokyo Olympics. This is to commemorate the historic Bronze medal winner of the hockey team after 41 years at the Olympics, defeating Germany by 5-4 in an edge-of-the-seat play-off match.

Seven players of the Indian men’s hockey team at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics are students of LPU.  They include Hockey team captain, Manpreet Singh (MBA), Rupinderpal Singh (MBA), Harmanpal Singh (MBA), Mandeep Singh (BA), Shamsher Singh (MBA), Dilpreet Singh (BA) and Varun Kumar (MBA). Each student would be rewarded with Rs. 10 lacs each for winning a Bronze for the country at the Tokyo Olympics.

Ashok Mittal, Chancellor, Lovely Professional University said, “My heartiest congratulations to the Indian Hockey team for winning the Bronze medal in such an intense match against Germany. We are elated and so proud of them for marking this success at the Olympics after 41years.” He further added, “It gives me immense pleasure that seven out of the sixteen members of’ Hockey team are students of LPU. They have brought significant honour, not just to LPU but to the entire nation as well. They have set an example for students to take up sports and bring more medals for the country.”

Indian men’s hockey team displayed enormous enthusiasm and energy since the beginning of the matches. The team defeated rival New Zealand with a score of 3-2 in their first match of Pool ‘A’. All three goals were hit by LPU students Harmanpreet Singh (2 goals) and Rupinderpal Singh (1 goal). The team stormed into the games’ quarterfinal with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Argentina, ranked seventh in the world. LPU MBA students Varun Kumar and Harmanpreet Singh scored one goal each against them; whereas, their teammate Vivek Sagar Prasad scored another goal.

Overall, eleven students from Lovely Professional University (LPU), are representing the nation at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics in wrestling, hockey, athletics and Paralympics.
