Pratap Bhanu Mehta Resigns As Ashoka University's Professor

He is considered one of the nation’s eminent scholars on politics, constitutional law, political theory, governance and political economy.

Noted scholar, commentator and political scientist Pratap Bhanu Mehta resigned as Professor from Ashoka University on Tuesday in less than two years after he stepped down as Vice-Chancellor.

He is considered an eminent scholar on politics, constitutional law, political theory, governance and political economy.

A daily newspaper also emailed queries on Mehta’s exit to five members of the University’s Governing Body, including Chancellor Rudrangshu Mukherjee; incumbent Vice-Chancellor Malabika Sarkar; Chairman of the Board of Trustees Ashish Dhawan; Founder Pramath Raj Sinha, Founder and Trustee Vineet Gupta.

While Mukherjee replied saying that as Chancellor, he does not deal with the administration of the University, the rest of the people did not respond to a question on the reasons behind his exit.

When contacted, Mehta confirmed that he had resigned but declined to comment any further on this issue.

Mehta is a graduate from Oxford and Princeton and has taught at JNU, New York University School of Law and Harvard. He is also on the editorial board of academic journals including the American Political Science Review, The Journal of Democracy and India and Global Affairs.
