The previous year has catapulted the adoption of technology and advancement towards a digitally developed education sector, raising eyebrows towards the continuation of traditional study patterns and has highlighted a void in conducting skill learning programmes, resulting in the proliferation of edtech players with more than 4,450 edtech startups being launched in India between 2014 to 2019 as more and more edtech platforms are emerging with diverse propositions. Now interactive learning platforms have a stronghold in mainstream education and today Edtech platforms host a vast array of services for various age groups from STEM education and preparation for competitive exams to co-curricular & skill-based education.
The traditional Indian education system is merely dependent on theoretical knowledge but the concept of skill based learning is more of practical learning which aims to develop an understanding of the concepts in a linear framework. Skill-based learning is more about planning, implementing and analyzing skills gained through knowledge - based learning method. This process leads to the holistic development of students as they attain in-depth practical/skillful knowledge along with theoretical information.
Real-time practical learning is the need of the hour, as pandemic has fuelled the importance of skill based learning over the traditional methodology, the idea behind this innovative and in-demand practice is to develop learners into independent thinkers and prepare them for the challenges in the future. As per the NSDC, blended learning models will encourage youth to build on tech-knowledge, soft skills like collaboration, creativity and critical thinking will be vital for jobs in the future. Skill-based learning helps students to think and approach problems in an innovative way helping them develop critical thinking. The new learning helps students to avoid rote learning and focus more on applying the facts and ideas in the real world. With the help of skill learning, students learn to use constructive thinking to solve problems. Skill-based courses like Creative Writing, Public Speaking, Clay Modelling, Personality Development and Chess help students to stay ahead in this technological world and helps them to conquer the techniques for future problems. Skill-based learning is the future of the Indian education system as it helps students to develop effective real-life problem-solving skills and helps them organize, listen and inspire.
With the wide variety of options available in front of students, they need to be nurtured in a way where they should be allowed to choose their interests and accordingly pursue them in the future. The new blend of education system where co-curricular learning holds equal importance provides children to also polish their innate talents. Not all children wish to pursue an academic career, this new wave has allowed those children to go beyond and has also allowed parents to accept and trust the process of this change which guarantees growth in learning abilities and post covid era has pushed the industry beyond imparting textbook knowledge to find more creative and fun learning ideas making education, not just skill-based but also an interactive process. This entire shift in the sector has inculcated skill learning as an everyday process making student’s future-ready to develop the significant traits and abilities which encourage them to move ahead from memorization to discover their full potential. Skill-based learning helps students in all-around personality development from confidence-building exercises like public speaking to the adoption of technology.
