Amity University Received 'Top Indian Academic Institution For Patents & Commercialisation Award'

India emerges as a Knowledge Superpower in which Amity is making a contribution by generating new knowledge, securing the knowledge in the form of IPR and translating them into an application to the society through industry and commercialization. These achievements have been recognized by conferring the National Award upon Amity University as the 'Top Indian Academic Institution for Patents & Commercialisation' during the ceremony to bestow National Intellectual Property Award – 2020 held on 17 Aug 2021, by Indian Intellectual Property Office under the Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.

The award was presented by Hon’ble Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textiles, Government of India. Ashok K. Chauhan, Hon’ble Founder President, Amity Education Group and Atul Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh received this Prestigious National Award.

Conferring the Award, Hon’ble Minister Shri Piyush Goyal mentioned technology & ideas are the twin engines of growth, IPR is the fuel that powers them, and this award not only recognizes the innovative ideas of individuals & institutions but also serves as an inspiration for others. He emphasized bringing IP revolution for inclusive progress in the Nation and strengthening IPR laws, creating an appropriate IPR ecosystem. He also announced that in the past, 80 per cent fee reduction for filing of IPRs was available to all government-owned or aided institutions but now, the Minister finds the similar concession should also be available to the recognized private institutions irrespective of whether such institute is in India or outside India.

The Minister made a clarion call to all academia particularly Amity University led by Ashok K. Chauhan, Hon’ble Founder President, Amity Education Group to play an important role and look at online and possibly a hybrid online and offline programmes to train the youth for better understanding about IPR, copyright, trademarks and patents. He mentioned targeting the creation of awareness and basic training to one million students across universities & schools in India, in the next 12 months, as a part to our ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ programme. Hon’ble Minister announced that 75 scholarships to students in IPR laws and asked Founder President Ashok K Chauhan to consider giving another 75 scholarships to students in the IPR laws courses particularly for students belonging to weaker sections.

Accepting the Award, Ashok K Chauhan, Hon’ble Founder President, Amity Education Group mentioned that this programme of recognizing the contribution of research and innovation organization is a great step to lead India to the Global Superpower, a mission of our Hon’ble Prime Minister.
