Delhi High Court Dismisses Appeal Against Najma Akhtar's Appointment As JMI VC
Akhtar said she has full faith in the judiciary and the truth has won
A division bench of the Delhi High Court today dismissed an appeal challenging the appointment of Prof Najma Akhtar as the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI). The bench comprising Justice Rajiv Shakdher and Justice Talwant Singh upheld the order of the single bench of the Delhi High Court passed on 5th March 2021, that dismissed the petition challenging her appointment.
A detailed copy of the order is awaited.
The Division Bench was dealing with an appeal filed by an alumnus of the university M Ehtesham-ul-Haq challenging the single-judge's order rejecting his plea against the appointment of Akhtar.
Haq argued that the appointment of the VC was entirely illegal as the search committee constituted for appointing the Vice Chancellor was marred by illegalities.
The appellant contended that the whole process which culminated in the appointment of Prof Akhtar as the Vice Chancellor was a colourable exercise of power.
Akhtar said that she had full faith in the judiciary and the truth has won.
