IC3 Institute Launches Training For 100,000 Career Counselors
A free certificate program that equips schools to establish robust career and college couseling departments that enable students to make informed decisions
The IC3 Institute has launched its first residential program for its IC3 Institute Certificate Program at the Ashoka University, Sonipat. 25+ high school representatives have registered for the session that was launched yesterday, September 16, 2018.
The recent 2018 Annual IC3 Conference recognized the need for India's 350 million students to have at least 1.4 million career counselors to maintain a globally acceptable student-to-school-counselor ratio. In line with this need, the IC3 Institute aims to train over 100,000 counselors.
The goal of IC3 Institute is to enable high schools around the world to provide career and college counseling to students early-on so that the students can make an informed decision about their future. It empowers high schools by providing guidance and training resources, to help them establish, run, and maintain robust career and college counseling departments. A remarkable aspect of this program is that it is free of cost.
Designed for full-time high school counselors and teachers, the year-long certificate program is structured to be delivered in four distinct one-week modules. These modules will be held once a quarter at partner host universities such as Ashoka, Shiv Nadar, Ahmedabad and OP Jindal University. The course is supplemented with self-study, online materials, and video conference sessions. The session timeline is as follows:
- Session 1: 16-22 September 2018 at Ashoka University
- Session 2: 16-22 December 2018 at Ahmedabad University
- Session 3: 31 March – 06 April 2019 at Shiv Nadar University
- Session 4: 16-22 June 2019 at O.P. Jindal University
The curriculum is designed to enable counselors to keep up with the evolving careers and college course options. It equips the counselors to address concerns that students have with choosing what is right for them. The three distinct areas that the training emphasizes on are: What to study; Where to study; How to go about it (the entire process).
Additionally, it will focus on delivering planned lectures from university and industry faculty; interactive class discussions; online tools; case studies; project work in collaboration with fellow counselor attendees and networking to build a global network with educators from around the world.
The trainers are experienced high school counselors from around the world; university faculty members from host Indian/international universities; guest faculty from private education service providers and governmental
organizations (i.e., College Board, EducationUSA); university admissions leaders from around the world; and visiting faculty from industry.
Currently the training faculty includes:
- Ganesh Kohli 2018 IC3 Conference Chair, India
- Dr. Shalini Advani, School Director, Pathways School, India
- Pavak Vyas, Chair Admissions—UG Programmes, Ahmedabad University, India
- John Wilkerson, Director International Admissions, Indiana University, U.S.
- Ragh Singh, Northern Arizona University, U.S., Program Manager - South Asia for the Center for International Education, U.S.
- Swati Shrestha, College Counselor, Woodstock School, India
Participants of this program will also need to complete assessments after their program. The final assessment will be done during the week of June 16-22, with final assessment results provided on 22 June 2019. Successful candidates will be awarded their certificates at a graduation ceremony at the 2019 Annual IC3 Conference.
