JMI VC Appoints Prof. Eqbal Hussain As Pro VC Of University
Professor Eqbal Hussain currently serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Law at JMI
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Najma Akhtar, has announced the appointment of Professor Eqbal Hussain as the Pro Vice Chancellor (PVC) of the university. This appointment takes immediate effect and will remain in force until either the current Vice Chancellor's term concludes, or Professor Hussain reaches the age of 65, or until further instructions are given, whichever eventuality occurs first.
Professor Dr. Eqbal Hussain currently serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Law at JMI. His teaching journey commenced in June 1990 at the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, and he later joined JMI in February 1994. Notably, he also shared his expertise with Zanzibar University in Tanzania from April 2002 to March 2005. On September 23, 2013, he was promoted to the esteemed position of professor at JMI.
Professor Hussain's areas of expertise encompass intellectual property rights, consumer protection laws, mercantile laws, and jurisprudence. He holds the distinction of being a life member of the Indian Law Institute located on Bhagwandas Road in New Delhi. The JMI statement highlights his extensive contributions, with numerous articles on contemporary issues published in national and international journals.
In addition to Professor Eqbal Hussain's appointment, the Vice Chancellor also designated Professor Zahid Ashraf from the Department of Biotechnology as the Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences and Professor Tabrez Alam Khan from the Department of Chemistry as the Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences at the university. These two faculties were recently established by separating from the Faculty of Natural Sciences, as indicated in the JMI statement. Furthermore, Professor Seemi Farhat Basir was entrusted with the role of Dean Student’s Welfare (DSW).
