K Chandrashekar Rao Inaugurates 9 New Medical Colleges In Telangana
The state government has also given the green light for an additional eight medical colleges, which are scheduled to join the ranks in 2024
Telangana's Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao, conducted a virtual inauguration ceremony for nine brand-new government medical colleges within the state on September 15, 2023. These new medical institutions have been established in Karimnagar, Kamareddy, Khammam, Jayashankar Bhupalapalli, Kumram Bhim Asifabad, Nirmal, Rajanna Sirisilla, Vikarabad and Janagam districts.
This development has significantly increased the count of government medical colleges in the state, increasing from merely five in 2014 to a staggering 26. Moreover, the availability of medical seats has surged from 2,850 to an impressive 8,516.
The state government has also given the green light for an additional eight medical colleges, which are scheduled to join the ranks in 2024, supplementing the existing establishments. In official parlance, this transformative initiative is referred to as the 'white coat revolution' sweeping across the state.
The Telangana Chief Minister's Office (CMO) wrote on X (formerly twitter), "No other state in the country has embarked on such an ambitious journey of establishing multiple medical colleges within a single year, all funded by the state itself, as Telangana has undertaken. This monumental achievement sets an unprecedented milestone in the annals of medical education within our nation."
The event witnessed the presence of key dignitaries, including Minister of Health and Medical Affairs Tanniru Harish Rao, Chief Secretary of the government Shanti Kumari, and several other officials.
