Skill Development Initiative By NIIT Foundation And Angel One

The program offers a multifaceted approach, combining self-learning and instructor-led training through a Learning Management System (LMS) and Career Development Centres (CDC)

Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sectors in India, have for long been facing a talent crunch. Both, talent acquisition and retention remain a challenge for the sectors. According to a study by Deloitte, there is a skill gap between the skills required for jobs in the BPO and BFSI sectors and the skills that fresh graduates possess. The study found that only 20 per cent of fresh graduates are employable in the BPO and BFSI sectors without additional training.

In this context, NIIT Foundation and Angel One have initiated a joint program aimed at providing training and enhancing employability skills tailored to the industries’ needs. Central to their mission is the recognition that children hailing from underprivileged communities often face limited access to essential resources.

The program offers a multifaceted approach, combining self-learning and instructor-led training through a Learning Management System (LMS) and Career Development Centres (CDC). By focusing on two key sectors, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI), the project targets candidates aged 18 to 25 who meet specific educational criteria.

The project saw the enrollment of 1445 males as compared to 1602 females. 71 per cent of the total candidates were successfully provided placements in companies such as Quess Corp, C- TECH, Findrive services, HDB Financial, DBS Mintek . 1654 placements provided within the sectors are a testament to the project's efficacy in equipping young individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to secure employment.

The overall impact of the skill development programs, in the country's various regions, was seen with 49.5 per cent of these enrolments coming from Maharashtra, 41 per cent being virtual and 9.5 per cent from Gujarat.

NIIT Foundation's carefully designed curriculum engages students through diverse courses, including Career courses, Non-career courses, Appreciation courses and Job readiness programs. Among these, Career courses take centre stage, focusing on comprehensive training and skill development to prepare students for lucrative job placements and improve their quality of life.

This year, the program is geared towards enhancing the skills and employability prospects of 2,000 youth from underprivileged backgrounds. The enrollment phase began in April 2023 and there are already 1,300 students enroled.
