Murli Manohar Joshi shares inspiring insights at the 4th Dr Rajaram Jaipuria Memorial Lecture
Former Minister for Human Resource Development and Science and Technology, Padma Vibhushan Dr Murli Manohar Joshi delivered the 4th Dr Rajaram Jaipuria Memorial Lecture on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi.
The lecture was based on the theme ‘Building A Sustainable Future Through Education’ in which Joshi touched upon various aspects influencing both education and the environment.
He also mentioned the crucial role of education in making good citizens and nurturing one’s mind and cited a famous saying that says ‘Human and environment are inseparable’.
The former HRD Minister also highlighted that education needs to differentiate whether it is creating humans for the market or for the family.
He spoke about the vision enshrined in the National Education Policy 2020 and how the policy’s implementation in letter and spirit would help to transform education by introducing a new pedagogical structure, improving teaching standards, enhancing learning outcomes and creating a culture of research and innovation.
While delivering the welcome address at the event, Shishir Jaipuria, Chairman of Seth Anandram Jaipuria Group of Educational Institutions, said, “I believe that of all the 17 SDGs, education is perhaps the only one that will have an all-pervasive positive influence on other sustainable goals. Therefore, it is of utmost importance for our education systems to become central to creating solutions to global problems, helping future generations and embracing global mindsets and skill sets.”
In the technology-driven era, sustainability is the biggest concern, in this regard, Jaipuria underlined the part of educational institutions to control the amount of technological exposure being provided to the students so that their inner ability can be utilised more.
Dr Rajaram Jaipuria Memorial Lecture was conceived in 2019 to commemorate the legacy of the contribution of Dr Rajaram Jaipuria to the Indian education system.
